Dueling Banjos?

I'm going to try to take advantage of this beautiful weather and do another long run today. I'm going for a 12 miler through the Mackinaw River Valley...let's hope I don't run into any banjo players.

**Update: I decided to drive the route before I ran it...you never know when the back country roads will be closed due to flooding. Sure enough, a section of my running path was closed. I modified the route a bit and I have pasted the new mapmyrun.com route above. It came out to be a little over 12 miles. It felt great!! I definitely felt like I could have kept running...in fact, I would have, but I had a softball game to get to. It was a double-header...I should have just kept running because we got smoked.

Hello Again...

Okay, so it's been a while since my last post. My bad. I'll spare you the excuses and just move on to the blogging.

First off, I had a great 11.5 mile run yesterday with my bro-in-law in St. Louis. We came in at about an 8:37 pace. It was a tough run, but it was a beautiful morning. I was due for a good run because my mileage was pretty low during the week (16.65 miles).

Second, I found out that my younger brother isn't going to be able to run the USAF Half Marathon....turns out that the USAF can be about as dumb as the USARMY...typical military bs. Unfortunately, I'm already registered for the race so I'm not exactly sure what to do. My options are: stick with the USAF half (drive 4+ hours to Dayton, OH and spend more $$ on a hotel room) or cancel (be out of my 60 bones) and look for another race closer to home (I'm considering the Lewis and Clark half, which is in St Louis...my mom-in-law and bro-in-law are both running....but, that's another 55 bones to register). I also saw that there is an IVS half coming up in Peoria, but I know it's going to be very hilly. I'd like my second half to be similar to my first so I can check on progress accurately (or something like that)...
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know!

Lastly, I'm hoping to reach the 100lb mark very soon....possibly this week. My goal is to be there by the end of August...we'll see!!

Wednesday: 3 miles, back, lats
Thursday: 6 miles, abs
Friday: pushup workout, biceps, triceps, shoulders
Saturday: 11+ miles (I'll have to measure it out...I think it might have been just under 11.5)
Sunday: REST

total mileage: 30+

Need Some Motivation?

I love this story...this what I think about on mile 7 when my feet hurt, my legs ache, and I want to stop. Enjoy.

...As the squad leader then zigzagged through a field, he felt someone tug at his shirt sleeve. Hours later, after the firefight, he’d discover that a bullet had whizzed right through it, narrowly missing his bicep. It tore a hole through his 10th Mountain Division patch and through a pack of cigarettes in his arm pocket, destroying all but one.

"So I pulled it out and had myself a cigarette," Camacho says, holding the patch over his arm. Then he lifts the patch to expose a scar. It’s not from that bullet in April, but from another one a month later, earning the 22-year-old his fourth Purple Heart for wounds in a war he just won’t quit...

I love the smell of sweat in the morning

It was a beautiful morning for a 10 mile run. The weather was nice and cool, there was as slight breeze, and the traffic was very light. I had a great run...my best 10 mile time yet. Man...it feels great to get that knocked out first thing in the morning.
